(second week of 2018)
Decided on the train today to do something new this year…taken me all of 9 days to come to this conclusion..?…decision…? Going to start writing more and without the (auto prompts?)… predictive text from my phone….
So up till this moment, I had taken my sketchbook out everyday since 2018 began…and not once had I written or even sketched in it…(so much for a sketch-a-day resolution)
Finally I have written in my sketchbook…(believe me, a novelty)…I hardly ever ‘write’…endlessly ‘typing’. I have been inspired by a commission I’m working on. A customer wants a 150+ page blank journal…to ‘write’ in…not sketch or collage…to physically put pen to paper… wow.
So now…I digress. It’s pretty amazing how easy it is to fall into very…extremely bad habits! I hope…I’m slowly…progressively kicking some of my ‘pull me back’ habits.
- Haven’t eaten any meat this year! (quit sometime in November last year)
- Attempting to save money on ‘work lunches’…packed up fruit and veg this morning.
- …writing more…actually writing on paper! Only thing I haven’t done yet is ‘sketch’…no idea why…actually do….my only resolution was to ‘sketch-a-day’. Just one sketch…and have I? No siree!
Not yet anyway…actually working on a commission! Scrap that…no don’t…just finished that commission. Need to start working on next job (gratis)… logo for my niece!
So…my first sketch of the year…today…not really beating myself up…(just a little slap around the ears) took me long enough! I suppose that’s the thing with resolutions…Sod’s law comes into play…and everything that could deters the fulfilling of that resolution…except of course if you are EXTREMELY determined!…like ‘come what may’ doggedness!
It’s alright though that I dragged my feet as per ‘sketch-a-day’ resolution cos now I’m not only sketching…I’m scribbling as well. Yay me! Defo pays to…pace yourself (without becoming lethargic)

So…the whole weekend I did work…however…I went off on a ‘tangent’ or (or maybe not quite). I have not started the logo for my niece but I have been making books and marbling paper all weekend. (need to get on with the logo at some point)
