It has suddenly dawned on me…..that I prefer painting to making books! Should have been pretty obvious cos I spend so much time painting the paper before using the painted paper to make a book.
Why not just paint onto canvas and voilà…done. I suppose I like to work things out…..always taking the long way round!
I remember painting paper and thinking to myself….why cut it up…maybe I should collage it onto canvas…..then I’m like nahhhh….snip snip snip ….another book!
I love playing with paint…..and I suppose all that time playing with paper in the studio is really panning out now.
Spontaneity is the watchword that informs my art practice. My artwork celebrates the energy of abstract expressionism.
'why not?' underlines my creative process. Forget the box! Its obsolete...it's all about whatever shape you want to throw on that dance floor! The process drives my practice!! For me, work well done is work I have thoroughly enjoyed making...work that has made me think, sweat, cry, scream and come back for more!!! Work that gets my back up; pushes me...gives me cause for doubt. Makes me push in order for 'why not?' to become possible. Boundaries? What boundaries?
